(15/10/2022 – BREEDON HIGHLAND LEAGUE, GRANT STREET PARK, INVERNESS)

Lossiemouth continue their month on the road with a trip to Grant Street Park, Inverness for the Breedon Highland League Game Du Jour meeting with Clachnacuddin. The two are meeting for the first time this season, and Lossie go into the game in form and in the mood for their third victory on the spin.

LEAGUE FORM (MOST RECENT RESULT FIRST)…

LOSSIEMOUTH – WWLWLW, GF 14, GA 11; LEAGUE POSITION – 9th

Lossie go into the game one of the form sides in the league after three wins from their last four outings. The Coasters were victorious against Turriff United last weekend, collecting three points at The Haughs for the second eason on the spin, and will take to the field at Grant Street Park as a top half team. Prior to that, Lossie were merrily putting Keith to the sword at Grant Park, again for the second year in a row.

CLACH – LLLWLL, GF 7, GA 16; LEAGUE POSITION – 16th

Clach have made a slow start to their league season, and with a third of the campaign under their belts have won just twice. However, their victories have come in games against Huntly (A) and Rothes (H), with the Speysiders suffering heavy losses to Clach on both league and cup duty in the space of four days. Clach’s win over Rothes in the North of Scotland Cup earned them a place in the final, which was lost narrowly to Brora Rangers. Their win against Huntly also saw them keep their only clean sheet of the league season so far, and since then Clach have conceded an average of 2.88 goals a game.

LAST TIME AT GRANT STREET PARK…

Lossie were last at Grant Street Park late last season, and departed with a point after a strong second half performance. An early goal for the hosts looked like being enough to land Clach the points only for Dean Stewart to earn the tourists a share of the spoils.

LAST WIN AT GRANT STREET PARK…

03/01/2004 – Clachnacuddin 0-1 Lossiemouth

The new year was three days old and Clach were top of the table and going for the title with Deveronvale on their heels. Lossie rolled into town without an away win all season and in need of a positive result to drag them away from the bottom two. Clach were unbeaten at that point (P15, W12, D3) but needed to turn around a bad December which had ended with a pair of draws. Lossie’s need for points ensured the game was more of a contest than many were expecting, and late in the game Stuart Strathdee scored the opener, and ultimately the winner as Lossie burst a few coupons on a crisp afternoon in Inverness. It was the first time that season Clach had failed to score, something they’d only go on to do just once more in the league on the way to winning the championship.

THE LATE, LATE SHOW

Late goals have become a feature of this game in recent seasons. Two inside the last dozen minutes in 2019, one eight minutes from time in 2018, two in the last eight minutes in 2016, and five in the closing twelve minutes in 2015, all coming for the hosts. Lossie upset the rhythm last season with a late equaliser from Dean Stewart.

WAY BACK WHEN…

There was more late drama in 2010 as Lossie came within a whisker of leaving Inverness with the points for the first time in six years. Nikki Smith scored once from open play and once from the penalty spot, but a goal from Gordon Morrison kept Clach in the game, and Morrison ruined Lossie’s afternoon with a last-minute leveller for the hosts.

TOP SCORERS…

Connor Bunce leads the way for Clach with six goals across all competitions, ahead of Lewis Mackenzie who has five in the league lone. Liam Archibald is top scorer for Lossie, also with six, scoring in four of Lossie’s last six outings.
