Lossiemouth v Keith – Match Preview

(11/11/2023 – BREEDON HIGHLAND LEAGUE, GRANT PARK, LOSSIEMOUTH)

The month of November begins – hopefully, this time – with a home game against Keith, but only if Mother Nature gives her approval.

LEAGUE FORM (MOST RECENT RESULT FIRST)…

LOSSIEMOUTH – WWLLDD, GF 7, GA 7; LEAGUE POSITION – 12th

Lossiemouth came through October unscathed, picking up valuable points from their wins against Wick Academy and Strathspey Thistle, the latter seeing the Coasters rattling in three goals in eight minutes to land all three points at Seafield Park. Last weekend, Lossie were meant to be at Buckie Thistle but heavy rain in the build-up to Saturday saw the game postponed early in the day. Lossie are up to twelfth in the table but the way the season has gone so far means few sides have played a similar number of games, meaning judging anyone on league position is something of a gamble.

KEITH – LDLLLW, GF 9, GA 12; LEAGUE POSITION – 15th

Keith are enduring a mixed season so far, with positive results few and far between. The Maroons have landed just five points from their eight league games so far this season, with a penalty shootout victory over Buckie in the Highland League Cup coming in the middle. Keith haven’t kicked a ball since the middle of last month, when they lost to Huntly in the Aberdeenshire Shield, and their last outing on league duty saw them lose by the odd goal in five at Nairn in the first week of October.

Just over a year ago, Lossie were taking part in the same fixture and won for the second season in a row without conceding. Liam Archibald and Fraser Forbes were the goalscorers as Lossie turned on the style in the second half at Grant Park to trouser all three points.

BACK IN THE DAY…

03/01/2011 – Lossiemouth 3-0 Keith – Match report

With Cammy Keith in the side, the Maroons were confident of winning most games and trips to Grant Park seemed to bring out the best in Keith, with the Shire side winning on all but two trips to the Bernagow between 2004 and 2015. In 2010, the sides played out a Desmond, and in the opening days of 2011 Lossie went one better and trounced the Maroons. Nikki Smith, Ross Archibald and a Stuart Walker own goal got the year off to the best possible start.

TOP SCORERS…

James Brownie has found the net four times for Keith this season, while Jordan Cooper has scored three times for the Maroons. Lossie’s top scorers are Ross Morrison and Dean Stewart (both 4), with the Coasters running at just under a goal a game so far this season. Neither side has proven prolific in front of goal this season, with just 20 league goals between the two of them across 18 games so far.

MATCH OFFICIALS…

Lewis Brown has the whistle, and is accompanied by Kevin Whyte and Greg Hutton on semaphore duties. Brown last took charge of a Lossie game when the Coasters were visiting Banks O’ Dee in September, with the hosts missing a penalty as Lossie left with a point.

Buckie Thistle v Lossiemouth – Match Preview

(04/11/2023 – BREEDON HIGHLAND LEAGUE, VICTORIA PARK, BUCKIE)

The month of November begins for Lossiemouth with a trip along the coast for the first installment of El Pelagico against Buckie Thistle.

LEAGUE FORM (MOST RECENT RESULT FIRST)…

LOSSIEMOUTH – WWLLDD, GF 7, GA 7; LEAGUE POSITION – 12th

Lossiemouth came through October unscathed, picking up valuable points from their wins against Wick Academy and Strathspey Thistle last weekend, the latter seeing the Coasters rattling in three goals in eight minutes to land all three points at Seafield Park. The wins moved Lossie up to twelfth in the table, a position that better reflects how Lossie have performed overall this season.

BUCKIE THISTLE – WWLWDW, GF 16, GA 5; LEAGUE POSITION – 3rd

The other Jags remain locked in a battle at the top of the pile, and while they sit three points off the top, they were almost certainly not expecting the two clubs to be above them at this point in the season to be Formartine United and a Huntly side being powered by Lossie FP’s. Buckie have played four league games on their own turf this season, winning all four while scoring sixteen times and conceding just the once, to Forres Mechanics. This will be Buckie’s first game at Victoria Park since late September, when Nairn County were battered by a clear half-dozen goals.

LAST TIME AT VICTORIA PARK…

26/11/2022 – Buckie Thistle 2-1 Lossiemouth – Match report

Just short of a year ago, Lossie were taking part in the same fixture and lost by the odd goal in three. All the goals came in the second half, with Ryan Stuart’s leveller not enough for Lossie to take home a point as Buckie scored either side of the goal through Josh Peters and Scott Adams.

TOP SCORERS…

Josh Peters has found the net eight times for Buckie this season, all from open play, while Jack Murray (6) and Andrew MacAskill (5) are also a threat. The Jags have had twelve players find the net for them this season, for a total of forty goals across 15 games in all competitions. Lossie’s top scorers are Ross Morrison and Dean Stewart (both 4), with the Coasters running at just under a goal a game so far this season.

Strathspey Thistle v Lossiemouth – Match Preview

(28/10/2023 – BREEDON HIGHLAND LEAGUE, SEAFIELD PARK, GRANTOWN)

The month of October comes to a conclusion with a trip to Grantown-upon-Spey for a Breedon Highland League tie against Strathspey Thistle.

LEAGUE FORM (MOST RECENT RESULT FIRST)…

LOSSIEMOUTH – WLLDDL, GF 5, GA 9; LEAGUE POSITION – 15th

Weather, cups, and weeks off put paid to most of October for most Breedon Highland League clubs, with most only managing a couple of games. Lossie have so far been in action just the once, but made the most of their time on the Grant Park surface to take all three points from their meeting with Wick Academy early in the month. The victory hoisted Lossie clear of their upcoming opponents, who have not had their problems to seek this season.

STRATHSPEY THISTLE – LLLLLL, GF 4, GA 27; LEAGUE POSITION – 18th

Strathspey Thistle go into the game desperately in need of something positive to get their season going. The Jags scored the opening goal of the league season just moments before Dean Stewart scored for Lossie at Fraserburgh, but Strathspey remain pointless after eight games and currently prop up the table, just below fellow strugglers Clach and Inverurie Loco Worls. The only highlight of their season so far was a Highland League Cup victory over Lossie at The Bernagow back in August, and since then the Grantown outfit have gone on to concede 33 goals in 7 games across all competitions.

LAST TIME AT SEAFIELD PARK…

14/01/2023 – Strathspey Thistle 1-3 Lossiemouth – Match report

Lossie made the journey south to Grantown earlier this year for a Highland League encounter, looking to follow up a Highland League Cup win at the same ground in October. An early penalty save by Strathspey goalkeeper Nathaniel Valente threatened to upset Lossie’s afternoon, but Liam Archibald had the Coasters in front as the second half warmed up. Late goals from Fraser Forbes and Ross Archibald ensured Lossie would head home with three valuable points.
