(06/08/2022 – BREEDON HIGHLAND LEAGUE, GRANT PARK, LOSSIEMOUTH)

Lossiemouth entertain Buckie Thistle at Grant Park. Tha’ Jags were runners-up in the Breedon Highland League last season and have started their league campaign with a pair of narrow wins, but have already been knocked out of two cup competitions, failing to win any of their three away games so far this season.

CURRENT LEAGUE FORM (MOST RECENT RESULT FIRST)…

LOSSIEMOUTH – LL, GF 1, GA 5; LEAGUE POSITION – 16th

Lossie have begun the season with a pair of narrow defeats, starting with a home loss to Shire middleweights and current tabletoppers Formartine United. Three goals down inside the first half, Lossie were back in the game when Martin Charlesworth rounded Ewan Macdonald and stroked the ball into the goal, and had Ross Elliott’s penalty hit the back of the net instead of the bar, who knows how things might have panned out. A trip to Deveronvale was less memorable, with the plucky Banff side eventually claiming three hard-earned points against an out-of-sorts Lossie.

BUCKIE THISTLE – WW, GF 4, GA 2; LEAGUE POSITION – 3rd

Tha’ Jags head west with two league wins under their belts, but their season has been a mixed bag of results thus far. A surprise draw with SPFL Premiership outfit Ross County got their Premier Sports Cup group stage off to a lively start, but three defeats soon followed, and Buckie eventually ended up the strongest team in the group. A last-minute winner was needed to get the better of Wick Academy on the opening day of the league season, before Formartine knocked Buckie out of the Aberdeenshire Cup on penalties. Another narrow win followed, this time against champions Fraserburgh, leaving Buckie well-regarded in terms of the title contenders. Buckie remain unbeaten on league duty since October 2021, and have claimed 79 out of the last 81 league points available.
